Highline Public Schools Board Director, Dist. 4

I believe every student deserves the chance to thrive.

Students thrive through meaningful learning, strong relationships with supported educators, and connection to healthy families and vibrant communities.

I have devoted my life to creating the conditions for students to thrive. As a School Board Director, I will work alongside families, educators, and the community to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow and shape their own future.

Priorities

Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive—academically and into their future. I lead with a deep commitment to supporting the whole student, empowering educators, and strengthening the connection between schools, families, and communities. My priorities are:

Cultivating Student Growth Through Holistic Support

Student growth includes meaningful learning and strong, supportive relationships. I will champion:

  • Learning environments that foster academic achievement, career readiness, and positive relationships

  • Safe, welcoming schools where every student feels supported and connected

  • Policies and partnerships that meet the full spectrum of student needs

Empowering Educators and Staff to Excel

Educators and school staff are the cornerstone of student success. I will partner with them and advocate for the tools, training, and conditions they need to thrive by prioritizing:

  • Access to high-quality, relevant professional development

  • The resources and infrastructure to foster innovation and student growth in the classroom

  • Positive, respectful work environments that recognize their expertise and elevate their voices

Strong Families, Connected Communities

Students thrive when families are engaged and communities are strong. I will focus on:

  • Building trust with families as true partners in student learning and school success

  • Expanding meaningful, inclusive family involvement in school life and decision-making

  • Collaborating with families, community organizations, and local leaders to increase opportunities that support student growth, well-being, and long-term success

I lead with integrity, purpose, and a deep-rooted belief in the power of public education and community.

Meet Damarys

In March 2025, I was appointed to represent District 4 on the Highline Public Schools Board. Now, I am running for election to continue this work—bringing the vision, experience, and deep commitment needed to ensure every student in Highline has the opportunity to thrive.

As a parent of three young children—current and future Highline students—I am personally invested in the success of our schools. I am a proud public-school graduate, a first-generation college graduate and Ph.D., and a lifelong educator. My educational journey as an English language learner and daughter of Mexican immigrant parents shaped my belief that all students deserve to feel seen, supported, and prepared for their future.

I have dedicated my life to creating the conditions for students to thrive. From starting as a paraeducator to teaching at the University of Washington, to leading public policy and health initiatives in local and state government, my work has always centered students, families, and community. I currently work for a nonprofit serving families experiencing homelessness in the Highline community.

I have organized with local families to expand access to critical resources. As co-founder of grassroots organizations, I advocated for policies that promote health, opportunity, and strong, vibrant communities where all children and families can thrive.

I am running for School Board Director with integrity, purpose, and a deep-rooted belief in the power of public education and community
